Chinese car makers BYD and Geely launch new plug‑in hybrid models in Spain
BYD unveiled the Dolphin G DM‑i, a compact B‑segment plug‑in hybrid priced from €18,700 after incentives. The model can travel more than 100 km on electric power and is equipped with a 1.5 L gasoline engine that primarily acts as a generator, delivering a 163 hp electric drive. The launch was staged simultaneously in 27 BYD showrooms across Spain, including a presentation in Madrid, and is aimed at making PHEV technology affordable for a broader Spanish audience.
Geely introduced the Galaxy Cruiser 700, a high‑performance off‑road PHEV SUV. It combines a gasoline engine with three independent electric motors to produce a combined output of 830 kW (1,113 hp) and a power‑to‑weight ratio of 288 kW per tonne for its 2,880 kg curb weight. The vehicle features a unique drivetrain with two rear electric motors, fluid‑coupled differentials and a robust suspension designed for rugged terrain. Production is slated for later this year, with the model positioned to boost Geely’s Galaxy division in the European market, though pricing and export plans remain undecided.
