Chinese car makers expand UK dealer network and offer long warranties
Chinese automotive brands have rapidly increased their presence in the United Kingdom, now accounting for roughly 20% of new‑car sales. MG, owned by SAIC, operates 180 dealerships and provides a seven‑year warranty, roadside assistance and a service plan covering MOTs. The Chery Group, with its Omoda, Jaecoo and Lepas marques, has built a network of more than 120 retailers and also offers a seven‑year or 100,000‑mile warranty. BYD has grown its service sites to 132 and expects to reach 150 by mid‑June. These expansions aim to match established European rivals by improving after‑sales support, genuine‑part servicing and resale‑value benefits for UK buyers.
The broader trend reflects Chinese manufacturers’ strategy to combine competitive pricing, modern technology and extensive dealer coverage to attract British consumers seeking affordable yet well‑equipped vehicles.
