Chinese car makers post July export surge, JAC reports profit rebound

In July 2026, Chinese automobile manufacturers recorded a sharp rise in overseas sales. Chery led the export rankings with 202,533 vehicles, a 70.1% year‑on‑year increase, making it the only firm to surpass 200,000 units. BYD followed with 179,841 units, up 124.3%, while SAIC Motor posted 142,000 exports. Geely exported 106,663 vehicles, marking a 202% jump, the fastest growth among the six leading firms. Changan and Great Wall also posted strong gains, with 82,300 and 62,000 units respectively, each exceeding 50% growth.

Overall, China’s auto industry exported 5.096 million vehicles in the first half of 2026, a 65.3% increase from the same period a year earlier. Jianghuai Automobile (JAC) highlighted its own performance, reporting a 15%+ rise in total June sales, with sedan volumes more than doubling and MPV and pickup sales each climbing over 40%. The company reduced its quarterly loss, adding 4.72 billion yuan in Q2 profit, driven by cost‑cutting, higher‑value product mix, and expanding new‑energy vehicle sales, which grew more than 20% in the first half of the year. JAC’s overseas network now includes eight subsidiaries and cumulative export volumes approaching two million units.
