Chinese carmakers SAIC and BAIC push new models into the Spanish market

SAIC Motor is preparing a manufacturing facility in Ferrol, Spain, capable of assembling up to 120,000 hybrid and electric vehicles annually. The Chinese group unveiled its upcoming MG 07, a D‑segment electric sedan with an 800‑volt architecture, fast‑charging capability and a claimed maximum range of up to 840 km (about 520 miles). Pre‑sales start in July and European deliveries are expected within months, with a price bracket of roughly €19,200–€38,700.

Separately, the historic Spanish brand Santana will re‑enter the market by launching the Santana Cajal, a four‑wheel‑drive vehicle built on the platform of BAIC’s BJ40 SUV. The partnership uses the Chinese model’s engineering and off‑road specifications—including a 36° approach angle and 800 mm fording depth—while adapting the vehicle for European homologation and adding localized trim. This strategy allows Santana to resume sales quickly without the cost of developing a new model from scratch.
