Chinese drama ‘Jia Jin Chai’ gains popularity on Netflix

The Chinese period drama ‘Jia Jin Chai’ has become a trending title on Netflix, featuring a plot centered on identity substitution, household intrigue, and romance. Based on a novel by Xiao Jiaren, the story follows a low-born girl who is forced to impersonate a high-born lady to marry a nobleman for luck after he survives a serious injury. The protagonist, played by Tian Xiwei, performs a dual role, portraying both the impoverished girl and the arrogant noblewoman.

The production has drawn significant attention due to its fast-paced storytelling and the involvement of several actors with backgrounds in the South Korean music industry. Yan An, who plays the male lead Lu Zhu, was formerly a member of the K-pop group PENTAGON, while Wang Yiren, who portrays a maid, was a member of the girl group Everglow. The series features a large ensemble of supporting actresses and includes an opening theme performed by Liu Yuning.
