Chinese Embassy in Cambodia launches portal to combat misinformation

The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia has launched a dedicated information portal titled ‘Rumors and Truths about China-Cambodia Relations’ to combat online misinformation regarding bilateral cooperation.

Speaking at the ‘Zero Fake News’ Media Forum in Phnom Penh on September 17, Jiang Nan, Deputy Head of the Chinese Diplomatic Mission in Cambodia, addressed unverified reports suggesting that bilateral relations are deteriorating and that joint infrastructure projects have stalled. He noted that some media outlets have misquoted official statements, distorting original intentions to mislead the public.

To address these distortions, the embassy is utilizing the new portal and social media channels to provide regular corrections and clarifications. The initiative comes as regional governments face increasing challenges regarding the cross-border spread of unverified information via digital platforms.
