Chinese Embassy protests death of citizen in Philippine detention

The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines has lodged a formal protest following the death of a Chinese citizen held at a Philippine Immigration Bureau detention center. The individual, who suffered from serious underlying medical conditions, died on September 1 while awaiting repatriation.

The embassy stated that it had previously issued multiple warnings to the detention facility regarding the individual’s high-risk health status and had requested necessary medical attention.

In response to the death, the embassy has demanded a full and impartial investigation to determine the facts and hold any officials accountable for potential negligence or dereliction of duty. China has also urged the Philippines to improve detention environments and ensure that all detainees receive adequate medical care and humanitarian treatment to prevent similar tragedies.
