Chinese energy storage firms see 93% of contracts from overseas markets
Chinese energy storage system companies are seeing a surge in international demand, with overseas orders accounting for approximately 93% of total contract volume during the July–September 2026 period. According to data from TrendForce, Chinese firms announced approximately 74GWh in contracts during this quarter, of which 67.8GWh were for international markets.
Europe and the Middle East represent the primary drivers of this growth, collectively accounting for over 70% of the total contract volume. In Europe, demand spans established markets like Germany and the United Kingdom as well as emerging markets such as Greece and Romania. In the Middle East, BYD secured a 11.275GWh contract with the UAE-based renewable energy firm Masdar, marking the largest single contract for the period. Additionally, Gotion High Tech secured a 6GWh order in Saudi Arabia in September.
China also maintains a dominant position in the battery cell market. In the first half of the year, the top ten global battery cell suppliers were all Chinese companies, representing an 84% market share. Leading firms include CATL, HiTHIUM, and EVE Energy, with CATL alone holding over 40% of the global electric vehicle battery market share.
