Chinese EV Makers Boost Exports as Geely Begins Local Production in Brazil

In June, China's major electric‑vehicle manufacturers reported higher deliveries fueled by strong overseas demand. BYD delivered 403,472 units, a 5.5% year‑on‑year rise, and exported 175,349 new‑energy vehicles, up 95% annually. NIO posted a 63% increase to 40,597 vehicles, while XPeng grew 16% to 40,126 units. Geely Automobile saw total sales rise 2% to 240,799 units, with its premium Zeekr brand more than doubling output.

Analysts note that weak domestic consumption is being offset by these export gains, and they expect Chinese demand to remain under pressure for the rest of the year. Meanwhile, Geely's EX2 compact electric car is gaining popularity in Brazil, with nearly 15,000 units sold in the first half of 2026. The model, priced at R$136,800, offers a 116 hp rear‑motor, 39.4 kWh LFP battery, 0‑100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and an advertised urban range of up to 425 km. Geely confirmed that local production of the EX2 will start at its São José dos Pinhais plant by the end of the year, underscoring the expanding role of Chinese EVs in foreign markets.
