Chinese fraud suspect arrested in Chiang Mai

Thai immigration police arrested a Chinese national, identified by the pseudonym Wang, in Chiang Mai on August 24. Wang is a wanted suspect accused of orchestrating an investment fraud scheme that defrauded more than 3,000 Chinese nationals of approximately 1.4 billion yuan (over 6 billion baht).

According to investigators, Wang entered Thailand through the Golden Triangle border crossing in late 2024 and subsequently hid in a rented house in Chiang Mai. He had overstayed his visa by 549 days and reportedly lived a reclusive lifestyle to avoid detection. Upon his arrest, Wang reportedly stated that he expected to be caught sooner or later.

Police are investigating potential links between Wang and another Chinese fraud suspect arrested in early 2026 in connection with a 500 million baht scheme. Authorities believe both individuals may belong to the same transnational criminal network.
