Pattaya police arrest Chinese murder fugitive after 36-year evasion

Thai police have arrested Zhu Zhishan, a 67-year-old Chinese national wanted for murder in Zhejiang Province since 1990, ending a 36-year evasion. Zhu had been living in Thailand under the false identity of “Suchart Surachai,” an identity he reportedly secured in 2001 by paying approximately 50,000 baht to obtain a Thai national ID card.

During his time in Thailand, Zhu built a substantial business empire within the tourism sector, including five companies operating hotels, restaurants, and travel agencies. He also amassed significant assets, including 17 land plots in the Bang Lamung area valued at over 100 million baht, along with various vehicles.

The arrest in Pattaya follows an Interpol Red Notice and coordination between Thai and Chinese authorities. Investigators are currently examining the legality of his assets and the circumstances of his fraudulent citizenship, including whether officials were involved in the corruption. Zhu faces potential extradition to China to face charges related to the 1990 incident.
