Chinese graduate faces parental ultimatum over job in Guangzhou

A recent social media story from China highlights the tension between parental control and professional independence. A recent graduate from Hebei province was offered a job in Guangzhou with a monthly salary of 9,000 NDT (approximately 34.2 million VND), which included good benefits and growth prospects.

Despite the promising opportunity, the student's mother vehemently opposed the move because Guangzhou is located far from their home. The mother insisted that her daughter find work locally to remain close to the family. The conflict escalated when the mother threatened to disown her daughter if she proceeded with the job in Guangzhou. Furthermore, the mother reportedly contacted the student's former teacher to attempt to prevent her from registering for the position.
