Chinese influencer deported from Taiwan for illegal surrogacy promotion
A Chinese social media influencer has been deported from Taiwan and fined NT$200,000 after promoting illegal surrogacy and assisted reproduction services. The individual, identified by the surname Tan, entered Taiwan on a tourist visa to host fan meetings but used social media to advertise programs such as the ‘Angel Plan’ and topics related to in vitro fertilization (IVF).
The Kaohsiung City Health Bureau conducted a joint investigation following a report from the National Immigration Agency. Authorities determined that the influencer, who lacks medical qualifications and does not represent a legal medical institution, violated the Medical Act by publishing illegal medical advertisements. Due to the influencer’s large following and the potential for widespread impact, the fine was increased to NT$200,000.
In addition to the fine, the National Immigration Agency deported the influencer and a foreign male companion for violating entry permit regulations. The influencer has been barred from entering Taiwan for a specified period. Local health officials emphasized that commercial surrogacy is not permitted in Taiwan and urged the public to seek services only through legally approved medical institutions.
