Chinese Man Hospitalized with Milk‑White Blood from Severe Hypertriglyceridemia

A 32‑year‑old man from Ninh Ba, Zhejiang, China was admitted to the Emergency Intensive Care Unit of the city’s People’s Hospital No. 2 after severe abdominal pain. Blood tests revealed a triglyceride level of 82.46 mmol/L—about 48 times the normal range—causing the blood to appear milky and leading to acute pancreatitis. Doctors attributed the condition to excessive consumption of high‑fat meat and low water intake, noting a recent rise in similar cases among young adults. The patient remains in a coma but is stable after intensive treatment.

Physicians highlighted lifestyle factors such as frequent intake of fatty foods, sugary drinks, and sedentary habits as contributors to the growing incidence of diet‑related pancreatitis in the region.
