Chinese opera and global musical traditions explored in Beijing

A cultural live event hosted by CGTN explored the connections between Chinese opera and global musical traditions. Held at the historic Huguang Guild in Beijing’s Xicheng district, the program brought together artists and guests from China, Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Algeria.

The Huguang Guild, which houses the Chinese Opera Museum, served as a symbolic venue for this dialogue due to its history of hosting opera masters and its unique acoustics. The event featured a fusion of traditional and contemporary styles, including an exploration of how rap elements can be integrated with forms such as Beijing, Henan, and Huangmei opera.

Participants received instruction in the vocal and physical demands of the art form from masters, including actress Li Hongyan of the Mei Lanfang Troupe of the Beijing Theatre.
