Chinese paraglider dies during World Cup event in Stara Planina

A rescue operation in the Stara Planina mountains has concluded following the death of a Chinese paraglider during the World Cup paragliding cross-country competition. The incident occurred near the Golyam Kademliya peak in a rugged, rocky ravine.

Witnesses reported that the pilot experienced a wing malfunction and attempted to deploy a reserve parachute. Despite the deployment, the pilot fell approximately four meters. The rescue mission, which lasted over 24 hours due to the difficult terrain, involved ground rescue teams, high-mobility vehicles, a medical helicopter, and a Bell 206 military helicopter from the Kurimovo Air Base.

The competition, held near Sopot, involves approximately 73 participants. While the accident is the first major incident in the event's history, organizers and local officials noted that weather conditions had been suitable. Participants have been voting on whether to continue the remaining flights of the competition.
