Chinese scam boss Chen Guoqing murdered in Sri Lanka
Investigations into the July murder of Chen Guoqing, a 31-year-old Chinese national, have revealed he operated using multiple false identities to facilitate international cybercrime. According to police reports and investigative findings, Chen was abducted from the Colombo Port City special economic zone by a group of over a dozen men, driven to a rural area east of Colombo, tortured, and killed.
Documents show Chen utilized at least two different passports under aliases: a Cambodian passport identifying him as Chen Hao and a Surinamese passport under the name Tao Guoqing. Authorities believe the killing was motivated by a money dispute within an organized criminal hierarchy.
Sri Lankan police have arrested five Chinese nationals in connection with the murder, while three other suspects are believed to have fled the country. The incident has heightened concerns regarding Sri Lanka’s vulnerability to transnational fraud syndicates that use the region as an operational base for sophisticated online scams.
