Chinese student's family hosts massive celebration based on inaccurate exam self-grading

A Chinese student and his family faced an awkward situation after an overly optimistic self-assessment of his university entrance exam scores led to an elaborate celebration.

After completing the exams, the student used online reference answers to grade his own performance. He estimated a total score of 709, a result that would likely secure admission to elite institutions such as Peking University or Tsinghua University.

Believing the high score was certain, the student's family organized a massive celebration. His mother ordered 20 banquet tables at a local restaurant and commissioned a banner congratulating him on his admission to Peking University. Over 100 guests, including relatives, colleagues, and neighbors, attended the event, bringing gifts such as laptops and red envelopes. Despite the festivities, the student reportedly felt uneasy, having previously cautioned his mother that his self-grading might contain errors and that they should wait for official results.
