Chinese Taipei baseball advances to Asian Games super round
The Chinese Taipei baseball team has advanced to the super round of the Nagoya Asian Games following decisive victories over Thailand and Hong Kong. In their match against Thailand, the team secured a 15-0 win, highlighted by home runs from Chen Min-tsih and Liu Chi-hung, and a scoreless four-inning performance by pitcher Huang Jie-han.
In their subsequent Group B preliminary match against Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei won 11-0. However, the game was marked by significant control issues from the Hong Kong pitching staff, who issued six hit-by-pitches throughout the contest. During the fifth inning, batter Li Yi-wei was struck in the head by a pitch and forced to leave the game. Following the match, head coach Tang Teng-kai reported that while Li suffered minor external bleeding and temporary tinnitus, the injury was not serious.
Hong Kong head coach Au Hok-leung clarified that the frequent hit-by-pitches were not intentional but were the result of poor control while attempting breaking balls. He acknowledged the significant skill gap between the amateur Hong Kong squad and the professional-level talent on the Chinese Taipei roster.
