Chinese Taipei men's basketball wins opener amid logistical controversy

The Chinese Taipei men's basketball team secured an 83-80 victory against Jordan in their opening match of the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games. Led by strong performances from Lin Ting-Chien and Chen Ying-Chun, the team maintained a lead despite facing pressure in the second half after key player Kao Po-kai fouled out.

Off the court, the team is facing controversy regarding logistical support. Following social media allegations that assistant coaches and support staff were forced to purchase their own tickets to enter the venue due to accreditation issues, the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association issued a statement. The association claimed they had been coordinating with officials since June and that the association would cover the costs of the lounge tickets purchased by staff.

However, team captain Chen Ying-Chun publicly disputed the association's explanation on social media, stating that the organization had issued a “statement that does not conform to the facts.” Chen emphasized that the team is focused on competing and supporting one another amidst the internal friction.
