Chinese Taipei wins esports bronze and faces scoring dispute at Asian Games
The Chinese Taipei esports team secured its first medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, earning a bronze in the ‘Naraka: Bladepoint’ event. After advancing from the group stage, the team, consisting of Liu Tang-hsun, Chen Shang-yi, Zheng Ji-you, Yan Kai-en, and Yeh Chih-yu, lost 0-3 to China in the semifinals.
In the ‘Competitive Martial Arts’ event, a scoring controversy has emerged. Following a group stage where Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and Pakistan all finished with 2 wins and 1 loss, tournament officials ruled that Thailand would advance as the group leader due to a superior set difference.
A dispute arose because the tournament rulebook did not clearly define how to calculate set differences for matches involving a forfeit, such as the match where Syria failed to appear. Consequently, officials have ordered a tie-breaker match between Chinese Taipei and Pakistan to determine who secures the second spot in the quarterfinals. The Chinese Taipei Esports Association has formally queried the scoring methodology but stated they will respect the final decision.
