Chinese universities hold orientation ceremonies for 2026 student cohorts

Several Chinese universities held orientation ceremonies for their 2026 incoming student cohorts in September.

At Chongqing Medical University, President Zhang Zemin delivered a speech titled “Why are you precious?” to new students. Addressing the impact of the technological revolution and artificial intelligence on medicine, Zhang emphasized three essential human qualities: curiosity, empathy, and responsibility. He noted that while machines may handle certain tasks, the ability to ask profound questions, understand the complexities of human life, and uphold a sense of mission remains uniquely human.

Meanwhile, the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) held a welcome ceremony and orientation for its 2026 cohort of international degree students. Organized by the College of International Education, the event aimed to help international students familiarize themselves with campus regulations, safety, and the rule of law. Vice Dean Zhao Wen welcomed the students, encouraging them to engage in cross-cultural exchange and academic excellence.
