Chinese University of Hong Kong reaches global top‑20 in QS 2027 rankings

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) moved up 14 places in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2027, landing at 18th worldwide and entering the global top‑20 for the first time. In the same period US News & World Report placed CUHK 28th globally and fifth in Asia, noting 15 of its subjects among the world’s top‑50, with five in the top‑10, including Education (rank 1) and Gastroenterology (rank 2).

CUHK’s ascent reflects stronger employer reputation, an expanding international research network, and a high proportion of international students and faculty. The university hosts around 300 research institutes and four state‑key laboratories, collaborates with Sweden’s Karolinska Institutet, and offers a HK$1.81 million (US$232,000) Hong Kong PhD Fellowship to attract top talent for the 2027‑28 intake.
