Chinese University of Hong Kong unveils 2026‑2030 strategy plan and celebrates QS top‑20 ranking

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has risen 14 places to rank 18th globally in the 2027 QS World University Rankings, marking its first entry into the top‑20. President Lawrence Lau (Lu Yu‑ming) called the achievement a milestone for the university and highlighted strong employer reputation scores.

Lau announced that CUHK will publish a new five‑year “Strategy Plan 2026‑2030” on Thursday, August 6. The plan will guide a campus master‑plan that focuses on developing Area 39 – a 30,000‑square‑foot site between the foothills and Hong Kong Science Park, near the proposed MTR White Stone Corner station. The development will include a tunnel linking the station to the Science Park, a new medical school building for 850 researchers, a forthcoming life‑science building, and the university’s tenth graduate college.

The university aims to expand its physical footprint to address Hong Kong’s limited campus space, align with China’s 15‑year national plan, and strengthen cross‑disciplinary and AI education. Additional student housing is also planned to mitigate high local housing costs.
