Chinese Wind Turbine Makers Gain Edge Over Europe Amid Renewable Surge

Chinese wind turbine producers are expanding rapidly in Latin America and the Levant and are targeting a larger share of the European market. European manufacturers, led by firms such as Nordex, are discussing mergers to achieve the scale needed to compete with the Chinese influx, as noted by Acciona CEO José Manuel Entrecanales.

At the same time, China’s electricity mix has shifted dramatically: for the first time, less than half of its power came from coal, while renewables supplied over 41 % of generation, with wind and solar accounting for about 25 %. The Chinese government aims for wind and solar to provide roughly a third of the mix by 2030 and expects peak CO₂ emissions around that year, followed by a decline, even as new coal plants continue to be built to meet rising demand.
