Chinmoy Krishna Das granted parole for mother's funeral
Bangladeshi Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das was granted five hours of parole to attend the funeral rites of his mother, Sandhya Rani Dhar, in Chattogram. His family reported that previous requests for him to visit his mother while she was ill were denied by authorities, who stated there was no provision for parole to visit a sick relative.
Das, a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jot, has been imprisoned for nearly two years facing several criminal charges, including sedition related to allegations of disrespecting the national flag. While he has secured bail in four of his six cases, he remains in custody due to other ongoing legal proceedings.
The funeral took place at the Pundarik Dham Temple. Video footage of the monk attending the rites has circulated widely on social media.
