CHIP and Ascomp launch free Dataleak Checker tool

The IT portal CHIP and software company Ascomp have launched a free Dataleak Checker to help consumers proactively monitor their digital identities for compromises.

Technically, the tool utilizes the ‘Have I Been Pwned’ database, one of the world's most extensive collections of compromised user account information. Users can enter email addresses and passwords to check if their credentials have appeared in documented data breaches from previous years.

To protect user privacy, the service performs searches anonymously. To prevent misuse through automated mass queries, the tool includes a usage limit of three checks per minute per user.
