Gold prices decline amid rising oil and Fed rate hike expectations

Global gold prices are facing downward pressure as markets anticipate a potential interest rate hike by the U.S. Federal Reserve this week. Current market pricing suggests a 90% probability of a 25 basis point increase, driven by persistent inflation data and rising energy costs. Spot gold has recently traded around $4,310 to $4,330 per ounce.

Simultaneously, oil prices have surged past $100 per barrel, fueled by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, including attacks on Saudi Arabian infrastructure and maritime disruptions in the Gulf. This spike in energy costs is exacerbating global inflation concerns, further strengthening the hawkish outlook for central banks.

In Indonesia, the Ministry of Trade has adjusted gold benchmarks for the second half of September 2026. The Export Benchmark Price (HPE) is set at USD 144,469.49 per kilogram, while the Reference Price (HR) has risen to USD 4,493.51 per troy ounce. Local retail prices for Antam gold at Pegadaian also show fluctuations, with 1-gram units listed at approximately Rp2,642,000.
