Chipotle Mexican Grill posts revenue growth and confirms use of Choice‑grade sirloin steak
Chipotle Mexican Grill reported revenue of $3.09 billion in the first quarter of 2026, up 7.4% year over year. Digital sales reached $1.2 billion, accounting for 38.3% of total food‑and‑beverage revenue, highlighting the importance of its online channel. The chain operated more than 4,100 restaurants at the end of March and saw restaurant‑level operating margin fall to 23.7% from 26.2% a year earlier. Operating cash flow was $651.4 million and the company repurchased about $700.8 million of its own stock during the quarter.
Separately, Chipotle confirms that the steak served in its restaurants is Choice‑grade sirloin. The cut is chosen for its balance of flavor, leanness and cost‑effectiveness, allowing the chain to offer steak without significantly raising menu prices. The sirloin is marinated with Chipotle’s signature blend of spices and peppers before grilling, delivering the distinctive taste customers expect.
