Chipotle pilots Palantir-built food safety risk management platform

Chipotle is piloting a new Food Safety Risk Management Platform developed in partnership with Palantir. The initiative aims to provide a centralized view of food-safety risks across the company’s restaurant locations.

The platform, built on Palantir’s Foundry software, is designed to aggregate various data points to create risk scores for individual restaurants. Reported inputs for these scores include health department inspection results, pest sightings, and employee illness reports. By consolidating this information into a single dashboard, the company intends to more effectively identify trends, prioritize follow-up actions, and make proactive, data-informed decisions.

This technological investment follows previous food safety challenges faced by the company, including a 2015 E. coli outbreak. Chipotle has previously utilized ingredient traceability systems and RFID technology to manage potential outbreaks, such as a recent incident involving the rapid removal of jalapeños in Minnesota.
