ChipPurr Jones, a rescue kitten, performs first pitch for Gwinnett Stripers
A rescue kitten named ChipPurr Jones, also known as “CJ,” made a ceremonial first pitch at a Gwinnett Stripers baseball game on September 15. The event was part of the team’s inaugural “Purr in the Park” night, which featured a pet-friendly atmosphere and a donation drive for local animal rescue organizations.
ChipPurr was rescued in August by a team employee who found the kitten stuck in traffic near the stadium. Since the rescue, the kitten has lived at the ballpark and become an unofficial mascot for the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. During the ceremony, marketing manager Tricia Wurmstein used treats to guide the kitten toward the mound while “Crazy Train” played in the stadium. Although the kitten focused more on the snacks than the baseball, the performance was well-received by fans.
