Chiquinquirá hosts XLVII International Writers' Encounter
The XLVII International Writers' Encounter has commenced in Chiquinquirá, Boyacá, serving as a major cultural event for Colombian and Hispanic-American literature. The festival, which runs through September 26, 2026, carries significant emotional weight as it is the first edition held following the death of its longtime organizer and cultural manager, Raúl Ospina Ospina.
The opening ceremonies included a civil parade and a special “Concierto de la palabra” at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, featuring the National Symphony Band of Colombia. The event is being led by Clara Elvira Ospina Garzón, president of the Jetón Ferro Cultural Foundation.
Key participants include Alfaguara Prize winner Pilar Quintana, who will lead a discussion on contemporary literature, as well as academic contributors such as Susana Castellanos de Zubiría and Uruguayan writer Fernando Chelle. The festival aims to decentralize literary activities by hosting discussions and workshops across various local institutions.
