Chirag Paswan urges Bihar CM to review professor recruitment rules

Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan has formally requested Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to review the proposed Assistant Professor Recruitment Rules-2026. Paswan cited concerns from various stakeholders regarding transparency, the quality of higher education, and the future prospects of both students and qualified educators.

In his letter, Paswan advocated for a balanced approach that protects meritorious candidates and long-serving guest faculty. Specific recommendations include implementing UGC Regulation 2018 (Table 3A), setting the maximum application age at 55, and establishing a domicile policy for appointments.

Additionally, the Minister urged the state to ensure that university recruitments are permanent and regular, rather than temporary. He also called for the regularization of guest Assistant Professors who have served continuously in state universities for several years, suggesting they be considered up to the age of 65. Paswan further emphasized the need to protect the autonomy of Bihar’s universities and colleges from encroachment.
