Chirag Paswan urges Election Commission to clarify electoral roll revision

Union Minister Chirag Paswan has called on the Election Commission of India to firmly present its position regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to maintain public trust. Speaking in Bihar, Paswan emphasized that while the Commission does not need to respond to political rhetoric from leaders like Rahul Gandhi, it has a responsibility to dispel misgivings among the citizenry to protect democratic confidence.

The calls for clarification come amid controversy involving reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections to decisions regarding electoral-roll management. In response to the mounting pressure, the Election Commission postponed two youth outreach programmes in Uttar Pradesh that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was scheduled to attend. While the Commission stated the postponement was due to logistical factors and venue availability, the move occurred amidst the ongoing political row.

Other government officials, including Arjun Ram Meghwal, have criticized the allegations made by the Congress party, questioning the validity of claims regarding electoral mismanagement.
