Chiriquí strengthens crime prevention through strategic video surveillance

The National Operation Center (CON) in Chiriquí, Panama, reports an increase in incidents captured through its strategic video surveillance systems. During the first half of 2026, the center recorded 3,958 cases, including administrative infractions, crimes, and other actions.

Major Juan Araúz, head of the CON in Chiriquí, noted that the statistics encompass traffic accidents, vehicle recoveries, homicides, and thefts. The center coordinates real-time responses between the National Police, the National Border Service, the National Aeronaval Service, Civil Protection, and local transit authorities.

Currently, the province utilizes two surveillance hubs: the Municipal Operation Center in David and the Surveillance Center in Boquete. Authorities plan to expand coverage to the districts of Bugaba, Tierras Altas, Dolega, Alanje, and Boquerón to strengthen prevention in high-risk and high-traffic areas.
