Romania and Moldova implement economic and infrastructure reforms

Various economic and infrastructure developments are underway in Romania and Moldova. In Romania, the Ministry of Finance has extended a 25% reduction in the diesel excise tax until October 31, 2026, to mitigate rising fuel costs and pressure on the transport and logistics sectors. Additionally, local municipalities are pursuing infrastructure improvements, such as urban mobility projects in Flămânzi and equipment modernization in Motru.

In Moldova, significant investments are targeting public and agricultural sectors. The government is negotiating a $52 million loan with the World Bank to improve energy efficiency in public buildings. Furthermore, Moldova and the EBRD have signed a loan exceeding €102 million to rehabilitate national irrigation systems, aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and climate resilience.

Taxation reforms are also a key focus in Moldova, with potential increases in property taxes starting in 2027 due to new asset valuations. Meanwhile, local infrastructure projects continue in communes like Cuhureștii de Sus and Drochia, focusing on pedestrian safety and urban revitalization.
