Chisinau tennis school under investigation for financial irregularities

The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) has uncovered significant irregularities at the Specialized Tennis Sports School in Chisinau following audits and parent complaints. Investigations revealed mismanagement of public funds and assets, including instances where payments for sports infrastructure were transferred to individuals' private accounts rather than the institution's official accounts.

Additional findings include coaches conducting private, paid training sessions on public grounds without reporting the income to the school. The ministry also identified safety and administrative concerns, such as children participating in group training without being officially enrolled or possessing required medical records. Staff discipline issues were also noted.

The institution has faced severe leadership instability. Following the expiration of director Ion Tcaci’s contract, a recruitment process was contested and subsequently canceled due to potential conflicts of interest. Several interim directors have since been appointed, including Corneliu Bîrsan and Olga Cosîc, both of whom resigned shortly after taking their positions.
