Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited resumes gas supply
Gas supply has resumed at the Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL) plant in Anwara, Chattogram, after a shutdown lasting more than five and a half months. The supply was restored by the Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) on Tuesday morning.
CUFL Managing Director Mizanur Rahman stated that technical inspections of the machinery are currently underway. If no mechanical issues are detected, the factory expects to resume urea production by September 3 or 4. While the plant is currently receiving a limited amount of gas for preparatory work, full-capacity production will require approximately 45 to 52 million cubic feet of gas per day.
The facility has faced frequent interruptions over the last two years due to mechanical failures and gas shortages. The plant has a daily production capacity of 11,000 metric tons of urea and 800 tons of ammonia. Restoring full operations is significant for Bangladesh, where annual urea demand is approximately 2.6 million metric tons.
