Chivacoa-Barquisimeto railway service reactivated in Venezuela
Authorities in Venezuela have announced the reactivation of the railway section connecting Chivacoa in Yaracuy state to Barquisimeto in Lara state. This initiative is part of the reactivation plan for the ‘Simón Bolívar’ Central-Western Railway System, carried out through a joint effort between the Yaracuy Governor's Office and the State Railway Institute (IFE).
The 33-kilometer route includes three stations in Yaracuy and two in Lara. Currently, the service is scheduled to depart from Chivacoa at 5:10 AM, with intermediate stops in Sabana de Parra and Yaritagua, reaching Barquisimeto in approximately 90 minutes. A return trip is scheduled for 5:00 PM. The fare is set at 90 bolívares per passenger.
IFE President Claudio Farías stated that in this initial phase, the system has the capacity to transport 300 people daily. He noted that additional shifts could be added if demand increases. The reactivation is part of a multi-phase project that includes future work on the section leading toward Puerto Cabello in Carabobo state.
