Chivas and América to play Clásico de México in Oakland
The Clásico de México rivalry between Chivas and Club América is returning to the Bay Area for the first time in nearly 29 years. The two Liga MX clubs are scheduled to face each other in a friendly match at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on October 4, 2026.
Organized by Primetime Sports with support from the Oakland Roots SC, the event will include a ‘Fiesta Futbolera’ prior to kickoff, featuring live music, food, and appearances by team legends. The last time the rivalry was hosted in Oakland was in 1997, where Chivas secured a 3-2 victory.
While the match serves as a major event for the Mexican community in the United States, officials note that player availability may be affected by FIFA international dates, as several players from both squads are expected to be called up for national team duties.
