Chivas defeats Tijuana 5-2 in Liga MX Apertura 2026

Chivas de Guadalajara secured a dominant 5-2 victory over Xolos de Tijuana during Matchday 5 of the Liga MX Apertura 2026. The match, held at Estadio Akron, was delayed by approximately two and a half hours due to intense rain in Zapopan.

In their first game following the transfer of striker Armando ‘Hormiga’ González to Olympiacos, Chivas displayed significant offensive depth. Ricardo Marín led the scoring with a brace, including a penalty, while Santiago Sandoval, Roberto Alvarado, and Diego Campillo also found the net. Tijuana’s efforts were limited to two goals from Elías Alves.

The win moves Chivas to 10 points, placing them among the top five in the league standings. Tijuana, who entered the match undefeated, remains competitive but suffered their first loss of the season.
