Chmielnik named regional folklore capital in Świętokrzyskie

On 3 August 2026, the town of Chmielnik hosted the XVI final of the Powiatowy Przegląd Zespołów Folklorystycznych, becoming the centre of folk culture for the Świętokrzyskie region. About 300 artists from 35 folk groups performed traditional songs and dances, including polkas, oberki and walking dances.

The artistic ensemble Zespół Pieśni i Tańca ze Strawczynka received the award for best artistic group, praised by its leader Ewa Cisowska, who highlighted the mix of historic and newly created repertoire. County executive Tomasz Pleban stressed the event’s role in showcasing regional heritage and announced plans to promote local groups at festivals in other counties. The county starost’s annual prize for cultural achievement was awarded to Beata Syzdół, president of the Świętokrzyskie Tkaczki association.
