CHN manager killed by suspected stray bullets in Guatemala City

Víctor Manuel Segundo Mazariegos Díaz, the Payment Methods Manager for the National Mortgage Credit Bank (CHN), was killed on Wednesday morning in Zone 4 of Guatemala City.

Preliminary investigations by the National Civil Police (PNC) suggest the death may have been caused by stray bullets. Witnesses reported that an armed altercation occurred between a driver in a white sedan and a delivery motorcyclist. During the dispute, the driver allegedly opened fire, and the projectiles struck Mazariegos Díaz as he was walking near the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism.

Mazariegos Díaz, 42, had led modernization and expansion projects for digital payment systems and credit products at the state bank since 2022. The CHN issued a statement expressing condolences and mourning the loss of their colleague. Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage and forensic evidence to identify the individuals involved in the initial dispute.
