Cho Kuk criticizes Oh Se-hoon's Tancheon relocation plan

Cho Kuk, head of the Rebuilding Korea Party's policy research institute, has criticized Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon's proposal to relocate the Tancheon Water Reclamation Center to facilitate housing and industrial development. Cho argues that the plan, which aims to create a Physical AI industrial complex and youth housing on the site, is a move to maximize real estate value in the Gangnam district rather than addressing the youth housing crisis.

Cho pointed out that the timeline for relocating the facility and constructing housing—estimated at 8 to 10 years—is similar to the time required for developing Yongsan Park, suggesting the Mayor's timeline calculations are selective. He also warned that relocating public infrastructure to resolve Gangnam's complaints effectively shifts the burden to residents in other regions, citing previous legal disputes over waste facilities in Mapo-gu as a cautionary example.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yun-deok stated that while the relocation process may be difficult due to the challenge of finding a new site, the government will review the feasibility of the proposal following discussions with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
