Cho Kuk urges livelihood and welfare mega-projects for political success

Cho Kuk, director of the Rebuilding Korea Party's Innovation Policy Research Institute, has called for the implementation of livelihood and welfare mega-projects to ensure success in the next general election. In a Facebook post, Cho argued that while the current administration is focusing on three major projects involving semiconductors, physical AI, and AI data centers, it must simultaneously prioritize housing rights and care rights.

Cho warned that if these welfare initiatives are not made visible within one year, the party will face difficulties in the April 2028 general election. He suggested that the political movement should present new agendas that resonate with the public, comparing the need for these reforms to the historical impact of the free school meal debate.

To address housing issues, Cho proposed the mass supply of high-quality, long-term public rental housing, citing successful models like the “Reverse Y” complex in Vienna, Austria. He emphasized that providing high-quality public housing could serve as a true housing ladder, allowing youth and the middle class to reduce the burden of monthly rent and more quickly accumulate funds for homeownership.
