Chocó earthquake relief: 170 tons of aid and $1M donation

Following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake centered in San José del Palmar, Chocó, relief efforts are intensifying. The disaster has resulted in 294 fatalities, 3,935 injuries, and 320 missing persons. According to the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), the emergency impacts 24,324 families and 403 municipalities across 14 departments.

The ‘Colombia, Un solo Corazón’ campaign, led by First Lady Ana Lucía Pineda, has mobilized over 170 tons of humanitarian aid, including food, hygiene products, and essential supplies. The logistics operation utilized 3 planes and 21 trucks to transport goods to Quibdó for further distribution to prioritized municipalities.

In addition to these efforts, Conmebol and the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) have announced a joint donation of $1 million to support reconstruction in the affected areas. The funds will be channeled through the ‘Colombia, Un solo Corazón’ initiative.
