Chocó infrastructure: Colombia announces 1 trillion peso investment plan
The Colombian government and private sector have announced a major economic and infrastructure roadmap for the Chocó department. President Abelardo De la Espriella proposed a 1 trillion peso road package consisting of six strategic projects, including the Quibdó-Ánimas-Nóvita and Istmina-Puerto Meluk routes, as well as improvements to the Bahía Solano airport.
Additional commitments from a business summit in Quibdó include financing for the Quibdó malecón, 5 billion pesos in seed capital for 1,000 entrepreneurs, and 100 scholarships. The plan aims to leverage private investment to address regional challenges such as energy instability, poverty, and connectivity.
Governor Nubia Carolina Córdoba has also proposed utilizing the Atrato River for national hydroelectric development to ensure energy sustainability and potential export capabilities. This initiative aligns with broader discussions regarding the development of an interoceanic canal in the region.
