Chocolate consumption trends shift in Peru and Chile

Chocolate consumption patterns are evolving across South American markets, with distinct trends emerging in Peru and Chile.

In Peru, there is a growing interest in specialty cacao and minimally processed derivatives such as cacao paste and nibs. According to the delivery platform PedidosYa, demand for high-percentage cacao products grew by 20% over the last year. Through an alliance with Agromercado, urban consumers are gaining direct access to products from Amazonian producers, such as the San Gabán Agrarian Industrial Cooperative. Peak demand for these products typically occurs between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., with Sundays seeing the highest volume of orders.

In Chile, chocolate consumption remains high at approximately 2.1 kilograms per person annually. The Sahne-Nuss brand leads the market with over two million bars sold monthly, driven by its milk chocolate and almond formula. The brand has also expanded its reach, exporting over 180,000 tablets to the United States in the first half of 2026. Additionally, Chilean chocolate products have seen increased interest from Brazilian tourists due to higher availability and lower prices compared to the Brazilian market. Other notable brands in the Chilean market include Trencito, Super 8, Costa Rama, Vizzio, and products from Ambrosoli.
