Chocolate overtakes alcohol as Poland's top FMCG category

According to a report by E. Wedel, chocolate has surpassed beer and vodka to become the largest Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) category in Poland by sales value. The Polish chocolate market reached nearly 13.8 billion PLN, representing a 5.1 percent year-on-year increase.

This shift is attributed to changing consumer habits, particularly among younger populations who are consuming less alcohol. Despite rising costs driven by climate change affecting cocoa availability, geopolitical tensions impacting fuel, and high energy prices, the demand for sweets remains strong.

Wedel is planning significant growth, aiming for 1.5 billion PLN in turnover this year with a target of 3 billion PLN by 2035. To support this, the company is considering building a new factory or acquiring an existing plant, and is exploring the introduction of chocolate vending machines.
