Choi Tae‑won and No So‑young attend second hearing on SK stock division

On May 15, Seoul High Court held the second adjustment hearing in the divorce case of SK Group chairman Choi Tae‑won and art centre director No So‑young. Both parties are expected to appear in person, marking their first courtroom encounter since the April 2024 appellate hearing.

The core issue is whether Choi’s SK Group shares, worth roughly 2.7 trillion won based on the April 2024 stock price, should be treated as joint marital property. The share value has since surged to about 6.4 million won per share, potentially increasing the division amount four‑fold. Choi argues the shares are special assets acquired through inheritance and gifts, exempt from division, while No So‑young contends her contributions to the family and the company warrant inclusion in the settlement. The dispute follows lower‑court rulings that awarded No So‑young 665 billion won in assets and 20 billion won in alimony, later increased by an appellate court to over 1.3 trillion won. The Supreme Court sent the case back for further review, and the upcoming hearing will determine the valuation method and whether the shares are to be split.
